A whole new gambling experience is here, one that may change the future of online casinos forever. But, how exactly does it work? What’s so special about it? Are there any bonus codes? And, most importantly, is it a good investment?
Online gambling has come a long way since its inception in the 90s. Every few years, there’s an innovation that changes the way we think about online casinos. From the introduction of crypto-based platforms in 2013 to the recent unprecedented rise of games broadcast live from real casinos, there’s always something new and creative just around the corner. Online gambling now accounts for more than a quarter of all money gambled in Europe and Asia.
It’s not just the casino world that’s been evolving. Online gaming in itself has seen a huge rise in numbers, and it has brought plenty of fresh new ideas to the table.
We have also seen cryptocurrencies as whole making headlines and creating massive waves in the global marketplace. As the internet itself has flourished, and international trading has become ever more essential, even for your average Joe, cryptocurrencies have filled many gaps in the market and changed the way we think about money.
This brings us nicely into the world of metaverses. Essentially, a metaverse is a virtual world where users can own property, work, trade, and generally create a virtual life.
As a concept, metaverses have been around for a while; the first mention of such a thing appeared in Neal Stephenson’s 1992 sci-fi novel Snow Crash and has been attempted many times, including in games such as Second Life back in 2003. The concept reignited in popularity following the release of Ready Player One.
But now, the introduction of altcoins into such a platform has created the very real prospect of earning money by buying land; investing in businesses; creating, marketing, and distributing goods or art as NFTs; and many other things besides, all in the metaverse. Yes, you can make money by playing a game.
There are many metaverses currently online, in beta stages, or still in the works. These include The Sandbox, Decentraland, and Facebook Horizon. And, of course, it was only a matter of time before someone got the bright idea of bringing casinos into the equation.
In our review, we will be taking a look at Decentral Games, an online casino provider that is based in the world of Decentraland. Established in June 2020, Decentral Games is officially the first casino to use the metaverse as its platform and brings many unique and interesting features with it.
But, how exactly does it work? Is the concept better than regular online casinos? And, can I make real money playing? If you’re interested in joining the most original, unique gambling platform around today, then read on for all the information you need to get started.

Hosting a casino in the metaverse comes with many distinctive features as opposed to regular online casinos. For a start, instead of simply navigating a website to find games, owners can create visually awesome casinos that you can walk around and interact with. You can also chat with other users directly through your microphone.
Moderators and staff can actively walk around the casino offering help to those in need much faster than via a chatbox or email. That’s right! Decentral Games employs a large number of employees who generally work 4-hour shifts on the floor, along with floor managers you can summon if needed.
On the whole, the experience is much more akin to visiting a casino in the real world than using a browser-based casino.
Using Decentraland comes with its own benefits. Mining and staking your coins are great ways to make passive income as you essentially invest in a business for a share of the profits. Also, as all monetary transactions and gaming outcomes are stored on the blockchain, it allows for provably fair gambling and reliable trading.
What Is Decentraland?
Decentraland is one of the leading metaverse projects online today. In the universe, users can buy LAND to build property and showcase or sell NFTs and other assets to make a profit.
Decentraland runs on the Ethereum blockchain and also hosts its own digital currencies, MANA and DAI. Users can interact with Decentraland by connecting an Ethereum wallet (I use MetaMask, but any wallet that runs on the Ethereum blockchain should work) and paying in-game directly from their wallet.
How Do Decentralised Games Work?
To access the casinos at Decentral Games, you first need to create an account with Decentraland. This is fairly straightforward, simply requiring a username, password, and email. Then you can create your avatar (or click randomize if you don’t make much of a fuss about this), link your Ethereum wallet, and start exploring the metaverse.
In short, the main part of Decentral Games is like a miniature Las Vegas. There are currently five casinos to explore and play at in a district called Vegas City. Each casino has its unique theme and game offerings, and you can walk around as you please, enter and exit casino lobbies, and sit down at tables to play games wherever you feel like.
Decentral Games allows anyone to become a part-owner of the company by distributing tokens known as DG tokens. Once in possession of these tokens, you can submit and vote on ideas for the future of the company, as well as earn a share of the profits. This process of governance is called a DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organisation).
While users can have their say in aspects such as games and the treasury, aspects such as management of staff and affiliates are reserved for the managing team, and owning a share of DG tokens in no way represents any rights of ownership over the platform.
How Do DG Tokens Work?
Decentral Games has created an entire online ecosystem with DG tokens that allows players to give their input into how the casino should function by providing ideas and voting. There are many ways to earn DG tokens, including mining, staking, and simply playing the available games.
As Decentral Games are mainly controlled by the users, staking is essential for the daily operations of the casino. As it needs enough available funds to pay out any winning wager, these can be taken from the liquidity offered by staked funds.
Staking and Governance Incentives
As an incentive to encourage more users to stake their tokens and provide more liquidity, to be eligible to vote or submit a proposal, you will need to have some of your money staked. You can also receive governance rewards, which, if you look at the governance dashboard, you can see that staked funds currently yield over 40% APY (annual percentage yield).
You will need to hold at least 1% of all the circulating supply of DG to be able to suggest and vote on new ideas, and the more DG you own, the more voting power you will have. 15% of the circulating supply of DG must vote yes to pass the proposal.
While this concept worked well at first-as there were not many tokens in circulation and each one was worth close to $20-now in June 2022, there are well over 200,000 tokens in circulation, each with a value of closer to $200. This means that to put forward a proposal, you will need to stake 2,000 tokens (around $400).
DG is an altcoin that can only be used at Decentral Games, and therefore, while it has value, it only really has value here.
Mining and Farming Incentives
You can also earn DG through mining (or farming). In this method, you will provide money directly into the liquidity pool through Uniswap and make it go to work for you.
You will need to have both ETH and DG in your wallet to start mining. Go to Uniswap and pair ETH-DG, then select “add liquidity” at the top of the screen. Enter the amount you wish to deposit and sign the two transactions to authorize the payment and add liquidity to the pool.
Once you have done this, you will receive Uniswap-V2 ETH-DG LP tokens (a bit of a mouthful, I know) which you can stake on the DG liquidity farming dashboard. Connect your wallet, select how many of these tokens you wish to stake, sign the transaction, and your tokens will be in the pool. You will need to have any ad blocker extensions turned off for this step.
While your tokens are in the pool, you may be offered rewards for your stake. You can withdraw your tokens from the pool at any time and swap them back at Uniswap. While your tokens are invested, you can earn a passive income for life by simply claiming the rewards.
By far, the most fun way to earn DG tokens is to simply play the games available at Decentral Games’ casinos.
You can earn DG tokens when you wager money, but also for such things as referring friends, sitting at the same table as another user, and dressing your avatar in a piece of NFT clothing while in the casino.
Wagering is allowed in both MANA and DAI, both currencies that run off the Ethereum blockchain but are exclusively used in Decentraland, along with ETH, USDT, and ATRI. As you make wagers on selected games with these, you will earn DG tokens. You can buy NFTs and other digital assets directly through Decentral Games using these currencies, and then receive a 10% bonus for each NFT worn at one of its casinos.
You will receive a 10% mining bonus if two players are sitting at a table, 20% for three, and 30% for four.
What Games Are Available To Play At Decentral Games?
Of course, all of this stuff to do with NFTs and investing is all well and good, but how does Decentral Games shape up as an actual casino?
There are currently only six games to be played across all the casinos: Poker, Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, Roulette, Blackjack, Backgammon, and Slots. All are well-created versions of these games, and it is nice to see Backgammon making an appearance; a rarity at most online casinos.
Games can be played with either MANA, DAI, ETH, USDT, or ATRI tokens, depending on which casino you are in, but can also be played for free using the FREE tokens you receive upon entry to each casino.
What Are The Different Casinos Like?
There are currently five casinos to choose from at Decentral Games, all located in an area known as Vegas City, which is accessible from the northwestern part of Decentraland Genesis Plaza.
Tominoya Casino is a Japanese-themed casino that hosts two floors with three wings each, and also a conference room upstairs for live video streaming. The games available include poker, roulette, and blackjack.
At Tominoya, there are 20 ‘parcels’ on each floor, which may be leased by any user as an NFT. Depending on location, these parcels cost different amounts of cash, from 11 ETH for badly placed parcels upstairs, up to 27 ETH for space downstairs by the door. Each parcel comes with either a roulette table or 4 slot machines.
At the end of each month, the holder of the land will receive a 30% share of all profits made on that parcel in the form of MANA. You will need to pay 70% of the MANA you receive back to Vegas City to renew your lease until the set two-year renewal fee is paid. Once this fee is paid off, the holder of the NFT will receive 100% (of the 30% profit) until the end of the two years. In this way, the NFT holder can make a passive income for life.
Serenity Island is the next casino, set on top of a massive island that players must scale to reach the casino. It is a Monte Carlo style-inspired building and features three levels, two for games and a basement level.
Chateau Satoshi was the first casino that Decentral Games opened with the launch of the company. Architecturally, it is a fancy, European art-deco-inspired building that, alongside three dedicated floors of casino games, also hosts a theatre, nightclub, and stratosphere. Roulette and blackjack are available at this casino.
Next up is the Atari Casino. Created and operated by Atari, the retro arcade game company that pioneered video gaming in the 70s and 80s, you can be sure to find some interesting features here soon. It features an open-concept floor plan and the building itself is styled after the famous Atari ‘A’ logo. At the moment, only roulette and blackjack are available here, but Atari plans to add many more, including special games that require skills. ATRI is the currency of choice in this casino.
Finally, there is the DEXT Poker Lounge. You will need to take a teleporter from the lobby of the DEXT tower to the penthouse, where you will find eight dedicated Texas Hold ‘Em Poker tables.
Graphically (or really, I should say architecturally), all the casinos are beautifully created and each delivers a unique experience.
Are There Any Bonuses or Promotions Available?
Unfortunately, as Decentral Games is marketing itself more as a real casino than a browser-based one, bonuses and promotions are not currently offered. But, as the platform is still in its very early days-being barely only 18 months old-and global interest is growing every day, who knows what it plans to bring in the future? What Are The Risks Involved?
As with all cryptocurrencies and NFTs, there are some risks involved with your investment. If, for example, the concept fails to gather a customer base and develop, you could find your assets worth dropping to near nothing overnight. However, teaming up with a well-known company such as Atari could do much to boost the awareness of the platform amongst gamers.
The use of crypto as payment is currently still a grey area in many jurisdictions, and hence, trading and gambling with them are not currently restricted. However, many countries around the world seem to think the concept is dangerous and are trying to create their own digital currencies instead. If legality becomes an issue in your jurisdiction, you could find your access to the platform blocked.
There are also security risks involved with investing your money in digital assets. While Decentraland, Decentral Games, and all crypto wallets have many security procedures and encryption methods to keep your investments safe, life on the internet is fraught with the possibility of being hacked.
Remember that all investments come with certain risks and you should make a proper judgment for yourself about where to invest your money.
Is It The Future Of Online Casinos?
Whether Decentral Games change the future of online casinos remains to be seen. The biggest issue is that it is based on a metaverse during the genesis era of metaverses. We have yet to see which of the metaverse projects captures the public’s imagination and gets going.
If Decentraland becomes the metaverse of choice in the next decade, then Decentral Games has a huge head start over the future competition, and those who have invested now are likely to see huge returns on their investments.
A potential outcome, however, is that another competitor develops the idea further in a different metaverse.
Whether it is Decentral Games or another similar concept that takes off, we will have to wait to find out, but many features of Decentral Games are already changing the world of online gambling.
Aspects such as adding 3D worlds, real face-to-face (or avatar-to-avatar) interaction with other players, and a proper team of staff are great touches, as is the ability to personalize your avatar with NFT clothing to stand out. These are all features that are missing from regular, browser-based casinos and, after playing at Decentral Games, standard online casinos feel rather bland.
Also, running on blockchain technology guarantees provable fairness, something that is essential in running a successful online casino nowadays.
While the current selection of games isn’t so large, with only six titles to choose from, it is important to remember that Decentral Games is still in its very early stages and more titles will be added as the platform evolves over the years.
All the currently available games are well-created versions and feature all the same elements you would expect at real casinos, along with great graphics, which gives me hope that all future titles will follow in the same vein.
Staking, mining, and farming are all easy ways to make a bit of passive income, as is the option to invest in the NFTs available at the Tominoya Casino.
While investing in online casinos is nothing new in itself, with many regular online casinos offering this option, if the concept of metaverses breaks into the mainstream market, then investment in old, regular casinos is likely to go badly. If a breakthrough happens and Decentraland begins to trend, any investments will likely go through the roof. However, as with any investment, the main risk comes from the uncertainty of the future.
The recent partnership with internationally acclaimed game developer Atari is sure to bring much more global awareness to not just the casino, but to Decentraland itself. This could be the brand awareness that the platform needs to make it into the commercial market.
Basing a casino on the blockchain to provide provable fairness creates a level of trust which people don’t find at other, regular online casinos. Also, with members of staff and floor managers always on hand and easy to find, it helps add to this trust. Gone are the days of sending an email to customer support and waiting days for a reply.
All in all, while Decentral Games itself might not necessarily be the future of online gambling, we could soon see many other companies taking the same idea. The core features of this casino will probably pave the way for how all online casinos will operate in the years to come.
